High-Quality Units Finished Despite Pandemic, Supply Chain Disruptions
(Kabeza Cell, Kicukiro District, Kigali, Rwanda): On July 9 See Far Housing will formally open 52
residences, the first phase of a complex that will ultimately feature more than 500 well-priced, high quality units.
“It was hand-to-hand combat during the pandemic to secure supplies, and manage shelter-in-place
disruptions, but we prevailed,” said Steven Moss, See Far’s Board Chair. “Our success is largely due to
our staff’s commitment, as well as our patient insistence that everyone deserves a high-quality,
affordable home.”
The 52-units feature one-, two-, three, and four-bedroom units, priced at between $20,000 and upwards
of $90,000. More than half have been sold.
“Our residences are warm and welcoming,” said Dr. Micky Padway, See Far’s Acting CEO. “Made of
indigenous brick, with solid wood doors and decent fixtures, offered in a range of prices. We’re quite
proud of what we accomplished and the impact we have made, and hope to be able to build on our
success.”
The residences consist of five blocks, clustered in and around green space and paved paths, rising as high
as four floors. Many have spectacular views of the adjacent wetlands and surrounding hills. The location
is close by public transportation, not far from employment centers, schools, and health care facilities, in
the quickly developing Kabeza neighborhood. The complex includes the Ziggy Playground, an innovative
space planned by American landscape specialists, Fletcher Design, and named for Fred S. Findling, a
survivor of the European Holocaust.
“The world needs more playgrounds, fewer mass graveyards,” said Debbie Findling, Fred’s daughter,
who led efforts to raise funds to build the playground.
See Far is in advanced negotiations with the Rwanda Housing Authority to secure government
infrastructure support to develop necessary infrastructure for the comprehensive project and hopes to
continue construction in August.
“Housing is essential to a thriving economy, and a happy people,” said Moss. “With quality shelter
people can pursue their dreams. Plus, real estate and purchases of furniture, appliances, art, and a host
